360° Virtual Tours and Photography
Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange
> Hippo Campus : Where We Learn <
As the “CURRENTLY CLOSED” signs went up at the end of March 2020, Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange found themselves sadly unable to welcome visitors to two recently installed shows.
The exhibitions are the fruit of Round 2 of the Arts Council Collection’s National Partner Programme and, crucially, enable access for both galleries to the Arts Council Collection of almost 8,000 works, including paintings, sculptures, original works on paper, prints and moving image.
These 360° tours offer in small measure a way for the exhibitions to be enjoyed in an immersive way, from a distance, and into the future, and for the galleries to continue to engage via their social media output.

> Go On Being So <
Go On Being So is curated by the MBA Collective, a group of art, photography and graphics students from Mounts Bay Academy in Penzance, Cornwall - aged between 12 and 16 years.
The title Go On Being So refers to their quest for strength and resilience; “things might not be too good but there’s still life, you’re still living, there’s still beauty in it”, as demonstrated in works such as Karl Ohiri’s How to Mend A Broken Heart, and Rod Dickinson’s Egg Bag. The title also acts as a provocation, reflected in works such as Gavin Jantjes’ Freedom Hunters and Donald Rodney’s Self Portrait: Black Men Public Enemy; “it then becomes a challenge: Go On Being So – Can we? Should we?” - MBA Collective, Nov 2019

2d Stills from 360° Photography
Making use of what are in essence two hyper-wide lenses, 360° cameras can capture dramatic images and perspectives - predominantly for 3D, VR and survey/documentation applications.
2D stills output are also available in this method; it doesn’t have the sharpness or finesse of stills shot with a dedicated stills camera and workflow but can, in some circumstances, and if used carefully, provide an additional image format for uses such as social media posts.
See below small galleries of images extracted from 360° originals.
